1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact:
Action Plan
Reflection:
The artifact that I designed and have chosen to demonstrate mastery of Standard 1.4 is the Action and Evaluation Plan. The purpose of this artifact was to develop a plan of action based on the SWOT Analysis. The SWOT Analysis assessed our school’s readiness for effective technology implementation. The Action and Evaluation Plan I designed focuses on five goals. Each of the five goals, if implemented would allow our school to effectively integrate technology within every classroom.
The Action Plan demonstrates my ability to research and recommend strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations by recommending a set of five goals. These goals include: skilled teachers that are more knowledgeable in implementing technology, promoting instructional change by having teachers use research-based strategies and knowledge from professional development to create technology-infused lesson plans effectively, create a student-focused environment where students are using technology to collaborate and participate in authentic learning activities, diversity consideration which allows the school to create opportunities of equitable access to technology for low SES income families, and develop a school related goal where parents, staff and administrators all come together to create a vision of how technology looks in the learning environment.
As I developed the Action Plan, I thought of strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovation and for managing the change process. The implementation of strategies includes teachers using PLC’s to plan on how to integrate curriculum and technology into lessons using project-based learning, having administrators sit in on PLC meetings to make sure that planning is effective and on-going. For support, the instructional coach will be available to assist with teaching strategies and professional development concerning technology. Teachers will also participate in professional development and workshops facilitated by the instructional coach that will further instruct on technology implementation resulting in an authentic learning experiences for all students.
Creating the Action Plan, I gained tools necessary to research, recommend, and implement sustainable technology integration within the school. I also learned the importance of understanding the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in the school. If I was to create the artifact again, I would spend additional time collaborating with stakeholders to learn more about their perspectives and encourage more contribution in hopes of increasing the success of the action plan.
This artifact will impact the school by allowing teachers to attend professional development and workshops where they will be able to get the training they need in order to improve their personal teaching practices. The improvement from training will in return impact students and will be assessed through the evaluation of student achievement scores.
