Artifact:
Copyright Assignment
Reflection:
The Copyright artifact for this standard shares my knowledge, understanding and facilitation of healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information. I completed the Copyright Assignment through developing a presentation in which I shared the importance of understanding copyright rules and fair use laws in education. This artifact was designed to educate teachers about the copyright and fair use of video and provides details on copyright guidelines, myths and resources. I also included some scenarios so that teachers could have a better understanding of copyright rules and use.
The Copyright Presentation demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate healthy, legal and ethical uses of videos in an educational setting. It is imperative that educators understand the nature of properly using shared material from other people. This means that teachers ought to regularly monitor how often they using video clips for instructional uses. This is extremely important because teachers are often faced with limited resources and with the desire for all students to have what is needed to learn, teacher unfortunately print materials and use videos in a way that violates copyright laws. To help teachers with their understanding, I modeled ethical uses through presenting scenarios within the presentation. These scenarios addressed the meaning of copy right and discussed facts of proper video use so that educators could learn how use resources effectively. I model and facilitated as teachers discussed whether each scenario was following copyright or fair use and explained their understanding.
By completing this assignment, I learned about copyright and fair use laws and how they apply to teachers. I learned the steps that should be taken legally to allow use of learning materials. Through my research and participating in training sessions with peers in my ITEC 7445 class, I was taught the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and other technologies such as music, information on digital images, videos and printed materials. Although I presented my artifact to some staff members, it would’ve been more beneficial if this information was shared with the entire school. Many teachers were unaware of the fair use o and copyright laws as a whole. In the future, I can make this artifact available to all staff members by adding it onto our school's shared drive. That way, more people will be knowledgeable about this information.
This artifact definitely impacts school improvement and faculty development through the helpful information included within the presentation. With the research and readings that I gained from my ITEC 7445 class, I am able to support my school technology team, administrators and staff on how we can practice safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and other technologies. Assessment of this impact can be seen in the classroom and through observation of other school related materials. Providing surveys can help administrators identify the staff’s understanding of these uses. By determining faculty understanding, proper training can be developed and presented so that everyone is protected and aware of the copy right laws.
