Artifact:
SWOT Analysis
Reflection:
I chose to use The SWOT Analysis artifact that was created in my ITEC 7410 course to represent this standard. This artifact demonstrates my ability to model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to technology related best practices for all students and teachers. Using the eight Essential Condition framework, I was able to analyze the current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Harmony-Leland’s technology integration.
Through developing this artifact, I modeled and promoted strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources. As I completed the section for the Essential Condition Four: Equitable Access, it was identified that not all students had access to the internet at home, we are not a 1:1 device school, and since our school doesn’t provide devices for students to take home, they have limited access to digital tools and resources. With the collected information, I came up with possible opportunities for helping to reduce our school’s weaknesses. I suggested that our school connect with organizations to provide internet access for families at home, provide access for parent and student use to internet after school hours and teaching of digital literacy, and that educators could partake in grants that would gain more technology devices for our school. I also promoted ongoing professional development to prepare teachers with the knowledge and skills in technology-related best practices that will improve teacher instruction, student learning, and engagement.
In creating this artifact, I learned a lot about digital equity such as it is more than providing digital resources. I had to concentrate on other areas like ways to provide internet access and digital devices in order to help decrease the equity gap. I also had to learn the importance of being intentional with implementing technology plans that weren’t just focused on ideas but instead included actual research-based objectives and goals that are achievable and effective. Using ISTE standards and the Essential Conditions, I chose technology-related best practices I thought were important for my school and its demographics. The artifact can be improved through evaluating the strengths and weaknesses more frequently and continuing to provide opportunities where teachers, students, and other stakeholders can improve their technology use.
This artifact helps to impact teacher development, student learning, and school improvement. Through the SWOT Analysis, administrators jumped on board with encouraging teachers to partake in grants that would gain more technology devices for the school and ongoing professional development. The objectives and goals aligned to the ITSE standards and provides recommendations to improve digital equity. Assessing this plan can be measured through school improvement surveys, parent surveys and academic data analysis.
