Reflection:
The artifacts shared in this standard demonstrates my mastery in diversity, cultural understanding and global awareness. The artifacts are my personal blog reflections on how modules, readings and tasks completed in ITEC 7430 supported my understanding of this particular standard. Within the reflections, I discussed how understanding internet safety and global collaboration tools can create a community that supports diversity, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness for students, parents, teachers and school communities. Furthermore, I shared the challenges and success in teachers maintaining a diverse and cultural environment that engages learning for all students.
I modeled and facilitated the use of digital tools and resources to support diverse student needs. Using the artifacts, I addressed some digital tools that met the learning needs of English Language Learners as well as visual and auditory needs for students with disabilities. Some of the tools discussed were VoiceThread, Adobe Spark Video, Read & Write for Google Chrome and Presenter Translator. For example, by using a tool like Presenter Translator, I am able to take text from an uploaded power point and convert the text to various languages. This is awesome because now I can reach audiences who may speak different languages. With this support, students can remain engaged in conversations, build background knowledge and develop comprehension skills. My intention was to provide students with experiences that built cultural understanding and global awareness as I designed and implemented these artifacts. By having students participate in projects like Holiday Card Projects, they can connect with other learners around the world and engage in learning about other cultures. Also, the more students work they are likely to build stronger relationships and develop greater respect for other cultures.
Throughout my activities and learning experiences in the ITEC 7430 course, I gained a lot of knowledge and understanding of diversity amongst learners, educators and school communities. I learned that implementing new uses for technology has the ability to extend outside of classroom walls and increase cultural and global awareness for all learners. Integrating technology use allows us to connect, collaborate and create in diverse settings. To improve the artifact, I would include other colleagues in creating learning environments that builds teacher’s knowledge of implementing technology tools that they have found to be beneficial for diverse learners. This idea could be used to support diverse student needs, cultivate cultural understanding, and increase global awareness for educators.
The artifacts can impact school culture by bringing a greater awareness of global learning and building knowledge of digital tools and resources that supports diversity and cultural understanding. Being familiar with what educators need to know about diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness can provide schools and administrators with effective professional developments that will result in effective instruction and engagement for every student. Effectiveness can be assessed through staff and student surveys
