Artifact:
MIE Course/Certificate
Reflection:
I chose to include my Microsoft Innovative Educator certificate and share about the professional development sessions I attended for this standard. I participated in the Cobb MIE course to receive a Microsoft certification that was presented by the Cobb InTech department led by our school’s designated technology specialist. The training consisted of eight 1-hour modules with one week in between and focused on eight specific topics over the course. I was thrilled to attend this training in order to learn more about emerging technologies and best practices for the classroom.
To enhance my continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies, I attended a training held at my school to help improve my personal productivity and professional practices. The MIE training helped me learn how to apply new skills to heighten the learning experiences of my students as well as my own instructional goals. In each week of collaboration, I was able to experience something fun and new with a few of my colleagues from different grade levels. We learned about Office 365, Teams, OneNote, Class Notebook, Forms, Sway, and Skype. During the MIE course we had a series of tasks and assignments to complete which demonstrated continuous learning all around. I was able to collaborate in meaningful activities with my colleagues and promote my continual growth in knowledge and skills concerning current and emerging technologies. These sessions were interactive and allowed educators to learn from the presenter while sharing best practices from our own classrooms. Attending effective professional development sessions allowed my colleagues and I to gain new methods of applying our skills and knowledge in a way that would introduce new learning techniques for our students.
During the experience, I discovered how awesome Class Notebook was. I was amazed at how it was literally like an online binder and was super excited when I introduced the tool to my class. Of course it took them a minute to adjust to the new way of implementing technology but after a few weeks they started to get the hang of it. My students enjoyed typing in the page sections where I would include a writing folder for them to type up their writing assignments. It was nice being able to eliminate paper since I was able to upload assignments and links for students to use and navigate through. To improve this artifact, I would like to engage more with the other tools such as Sway and Teams with my class. I will continue to seek out learning opportunities where I can develop more instructional skills and knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
This artifact impacts student learning and faculty development. I was able to learn more about emerging technologies and obtained skills that I could share with my colleagues, especially the ones on my grade level. It’s a great feeling knowing that I can model best practices and assist coworkers with implementing technology resources they can use to enhance their lessons all while increasing engagement in the classroom. By continuing to learn and use effective tools, students will remain showing academic growth using the technology-rich environment I am providing them. The impact of this artifact can be assessed by collecting feedback from teachers and students and observing collaborative planning sessions.
